In Flanders Fields the Poppies Blow

source
In Flanders Fields
by
Lt. Col John McCrae

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

At the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, whether you call it Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Veterans Day,stop for a moment of silence and remember all those who have fought  in all the wars everywhere. The Armistice signed on November 11, 1918 at precisely 11:00 AM  was supposed to mark the end of  " the war to end all war"

It didn't quite work out that way, but let's hope that someday, somehow it will.
